The "Openlane - Private Sale" SCAM - 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible
Always in the market for a nice Chevy Impala, I found an interesting add in Germany for a beautifull 1964 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport Convertible. After exchanging a few e-mails and being redirected to an auction sale website, I discover that this is the most professional scam I have ever encountered in the 10+ years of buying cars all over the world.
What were the red flags? What to look out for? How to avoid being scammed? Check it out in this video!
!!! Do note that Openlane does exist as a legit auction car company but scammers use its name to create fake auctions as "private sales" !!!
If there is any interest, I will make a video on the scam trend hitting Instagram and Facebook too, t...

Great great video!! A have a question: how many liters of the new engine oil you put into the car? Thank you in advance
If I remember correctly, the oil capacity for the 1300cc engine is 3.2 liters. Might be a little more when installing a new oil filter.
Bro you just saved me from loosing 8k€. Never saw a scam built that well, I even received a legit SMS confirmation msg. Damn I knew too good to be true 😅
How about the ac got a video on that ?
Unfortunately I have not been lucky enough yet to find/have an Impala with AC 🥲
Would it be a good idea to use Loctite on the nuts and boats?
Alot of bad habits here, always use 24 volts for solenoids, most dump just ground through the pump body it's low amp so aluminum is cool..be very weary of following theses bad habits..oh and replace every solenoid in that if you have a run away..the best test for a solenoid is to shake it and you can tell .. testing does help but if you have to test toss it anyway..
I have runned solenoids for 10+ years on 12v too and never burned one, even on 8 batts 96v to the nose and switch happy! However, I run them on the front battery which has a constant 14.7v when the engine is running. When you run them on one of the rear batts, the hydraulic pumps will drain the voltage down, causing the solenoids to loose power and start clicking and welding shut, thats when you get a stuck solenoid and problems start. Keep in mind most of these are just starter solenoids and are made to run on 12v, most people just run them on 24v because they "want to be safe" or because their cousin told them to do so xD
Oh, ment to ask, what country are you in? I see plates that suggest not in North America
I'm in Belgium, Europe 🇧🇪
Good video sir!!!! Although I like to do as much as I can myself, this maybe out of my ability, especially the tools and such to get those lines back in. Love the detail you showed on the valve!!😊
Believe me that my first power steering valve rebuild did not go as good as on this video, I remember I had to take it all appart again because of a leak. But through trial and error I have successfully rebuild a few of them now 🙌 I always suggest trying it!
A masterpiece 😢
Dammm what’s the address so I can drop my car off at.
Belgium, Europe 😁
How did he convert the lower part of the rear lights?
😊
Loved the video. The car is in great condition. I hope ill own one soon
Thanks! I have a second episode recorded but unfinished because I still have some stuff to do on the car and didn't get to it yet 😵 It will be up on the channel one day hopefully 🤞🏼
That was done very nicely
Would you believe I was quoted 3800 $ Canadian labor to install on my 64 droptop

Hello What state do you live ?
I'm in Belgium, Europe 🇧🇪
Right on I have a 1962 Impala convertible all done Go to you tube and check my car out under 1962 Chevy Impala Santa Monica
What’s the point of fast fwding the brake shoe installation steps. Show it step by step next time so the viewer can actually learn something.
Figured it's a simple "re-mount how you took it appart" job but I'll keep it in mind next time I do a brake job and decide to record it 👊🏼
Hi there, where’d you order your replacement top?
I found it locally but it was bought from Classic Industries according to the label on the box
Hey thanks man, you wouldn’t happen to have the model number from the box would you?
I checked my pictures but couldn't find it 😔 I think the one I had was pretty standard though, white pin point vynil with plastic rear window.
What country are you in?
Belgium, Europe 🇧🇪
Nice, good job. Thought I YT to do a install on my Four and this came up . I think I can do it and then Happy New Year 🎉 2024🇺🇲 ! Thank very informative .🙏
Glad it helped! I feared this job too but with the good advise and help of my friend, it wasn't that big of a deal. The only thing I would do different now that I experienced a first install, is buy and install new tack strips all arround. This one held well but it would be more of a "ease of mind" thing to know they were changed to new ones too.
Another classic GM car a nice ruined.
Thats what lowriders do 🥳
On the convertibles, can you install headliner to hide all the convertible bars? Are those have to always be exposed
I always saw them exposed, I did see some dudes on IG doing star illuminated headliners on the convertible tops 😵
l got new top in box I would like see to install it a 1964 chewy Impala
I have the full video on my channel
You da man! Professional backyard mechanics at its finest. You my idol bro!
Dude you are my idol! I love the way you rebuild those impalas. I'm just now starting my project. 1963 4 door sedan. It was my first car I ever bought. Drug it around for 25 years and now I'm taking the time to do rebuild it. I found your videos and thought to myself this dude it freaking cool as shit! No more videos?? Can you please make a door panel removal and repair reinstall video? I thought you had mentioned some Carpet the bottoms of the 64 door panels. Thats exactly what I was thinking about doing. Your 59 is a bad ass ride by the way. Did you learn how to work on them by yourself? I never thought there was someone else outthere that loved impala s like I do. Anyways, any new videos on you doing some impala work would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the kind words! I did learn to work on cars by myself, although my dad has a lot of knowledge and has teached me a lot of stuff. I have been going trough some personnal issues this year which caused me to put the channel on hold but I hope to be doing more videos soon. I will be installing power vent windows in the 59, so I can do a video about that and that will include the door panel removal and install. I like all cars and have different brands and models but nothing like Impala's! Thats where my heart is at 🙏🏼 Stay motivated on that 63 and give it a new life!
Love that car❤
So beautiful. 🔥🔥🔥💯😎
What is the name of that tool to remove the end of slave cylinder ?
Used 3 or 4 S.O.S pads to do mine. Used it on all the stainless trim too . Looks new after sitting 16 years .
Its weird seeing our American classics in Europe. And shit.
Bare with me, it was my first video hahaha, I left all the shits out in all the other videos 😂 there were a lot of american cars out here back in the day, a lot of them produced in plants in europe and never been on american soil
Good car
You guys ever heard of locking nuts or a thread lock or a grover washer perhaps ?
well, at least u made a fortune. in 2015 u could get these for 30k, now its around 100k for sure. It was not a bad investment, huh? 😁
I have to say I MISS THIS CAR A LOOOOOT! For me it was everything a lowrider Impala had to be and I doubt I'll ever one like it again. It sucks that laws out here complicated everything and the chase of the 59 rag dream was always there! On the bright side, it was for sure a good investment and it always is when you buy the right cars. It didn't go for 100k Calibroker prices either haha theres always a gap between asking price and selling price but hey it was a decent amount to let it go and I was happy to see it shining at the En Memoria show in Pomona last weekend! I personally never lost money on a car, break even at the worst, pure investment wise that is, because I rarely count the hours that go in these cars. But look, I'd rather have 10 cars and enjoy them either by getting stuff done on them or driving them, then having money prisoned in the bank and not doing anything with it!
Nice
Fog lights and shit,,dish soap and shit,,Time to find another channel and shit,,
😂😂 when I watch this video again, believe me, I wish I would have recorded it differently. It was my first video though and there was no intention in making a channel at all at this time. It realy evolved in a positive way the more videos were made so give the channel another chance I'd say 🙏🏼

Wow now thats super cool!!! They are great cars and are starting to be collectors too, I bought my VR6 just at the right moment because the prices are x3 now. Believe it or not, people out here go nuts for US spec parts for these older Volkswagens by the way :D
Chaud à faire en place avec la clim!! Ces feux arr ❤
Oh oui!!! J'ai bien galerer mais content d'avoir pu réparer cette fuite, pas une goute de perte depuis! 🥳
How much you think I could get a decent 63 or 64 Impala for? Been wanting one my whole life i’d appreciate someone’s advice that knows impalas and how much their really worth so I don’t get scammed thanks!😂
It depends on so many factors that it is hard to just throw a number! Where you are located; do you want a fully done car or a project car; a stock impala or a lowrider; if a lowrider, a cruiser, a hopper, a show car; what drive train; ... so yeah considering all these points it could range anywhere from 10k $ to 80k $
She is a beauty!

How do adjust the steering control valve. I replaced mine and now mine turns..
You have to turn the adjusting bolt on the side either in or out. Best is to have the wheels in the air, start the car, see if it turns itself, turn off the car, adjust valve and repeat untill the wheels stay centered and dont steer on their own.
@@AMB1800 ok. It was new, didn’t think I would have to.. so would I turn loose? or turn tight??
@@AMB1800 also do I need Teflon tape on the threads of the hoses or no Teflon tape needed??
@@1962rag it depends in which direction the wheels pull, you will have to try either way and see what happens. Its a precise part so even a quarter turn can make a difference
@@1962rag no teflon needed on the fittings since they are conical.
